Dear MacArthur Parent(s)/Guardian(s):
The North East Independent School District Administration and its Police Department are conducting separate investigations into the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp program at MacArthur High School.
Allegations made by a parent of a former cadet regarding the cadet’s treatment by student officers two weeks ago immediately launched the two separate investigations.
The investigation is far-reaching and is still on-going. The JROTC instructors have been placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Substitute instructors with JROTC training and experience are currently supervising the MacArthur program.
The investigations come at a time that the MacArthur JROTC students have placed high at national competitions. The CyberPatriots team has advanced to a national competition and are scheduled to compete next month. The Armed and Unarmed Drill Teams will attend the Army National Drill Team Championships next month as well.
Since the initial allegation was made, other concerns have been reported about the program, which are also part of North East’s on-going and intensive investigation. These include claims of direct threats against individuals.
Safety and security issues are taken very seriously and appropriate steps have been taken. In addition to the security cameras throughout the campus, the North East Police Department has increased its presence at MacArthur.
Sincerely,
Peter Martinez
Principal, MacArthur High School
