The hit TV show The Voice returned last night for its fourth season. Although the concept is that same, new faces now sit behind the judges chairs.
Former judges, Ceelo Green and Christina Aguilera were replaced by Latina singer Shakira and pop star Usher.
The first show of the season set the bar high, the contestants brought a new level of creativity, remixing songs like I’m Sexy and I Know It from an upbeat dance song to a slow soft rock ballad. Not only did contestants bring a new level of creativity they also brought amazing life stories. Like Judith Hill, the 28 year old was Michael Jackson’s former duet partner, for the song ‘I Just Can’t Stop Loving You’ during his This Is It Tour. The artist even sang at his memorial. She received many offers after being heard during the tour as well as at the memorial, but decided to decline. The singer’s ‘blind’ audition was the best of the night. She sang Christina Aguilera’s “What A Girl Wants” just as well, if not better than Christina herself. After a lot of competition from the judges, Hill ended up with Adam Levine as her coach.
Usually change is a mistake, but the new judges bring a new chemistry to the show that makes the conversations on screen, as well as their arguments to convince contestants to join their team as entertaining as the singers themselves. The new judges are doing a great job.
