Senior Steven Baker has received an honor not many football players come to experience during their high school years; a spot in the Texas High School Coaches Association 2013 All-Star Football Game. July 30, Baker will play in the Amon Carter Stadium at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
Receiving the honor was more joyful than anything for Baker.
“I was at the gym working out and I got a phone call from the head coach of the all-star game,” Baker said. “He told me I made it and I was pretty excited because the game is at TCU’s stadium and I’ve never been there before.”
Not many students are selected to play, so it is an honor that is difficult to achieve.
“There were only 13 5A players selected for the east team,” Baker said. “It’s really cool knowing that out of all the players I was one selected. It makes you happy for all of the hard work you have put into working out, going to practices and listening to coaches.”
Baker has high anticipation towards the big stage.
“I’m a little bit nervous but it’s more of excitement,” Baker said. “It’s a big stage and there’s a lot of great players out there. I expect an awesome environment, a cool stadium and good football.”
Tickets to the game will be available at the door on game night. The game will also be televised on Fox Sports South West.
