A competition in Round Rock Sat. Oct. 12 is the next stop for the Marching Band.
“No one has a life in band,” Drum Major Alex Goodman, 12, said smiling. “Band is our life.”
Since their summer practices before school started, the band has been preparing a full half-time show. The several performances at football games have also helped prepare them for the competition.
“We’re used to long days,” Drum Major, Grace Hopkins, 12, said. “We’ll be in Round Rock all day Saturday. And if we make the finals we won’t be back until at least one in the morning.”
The title of their show is ‘Black Roses Red’. It has four movements and it is eight minutes long (the length of a normal half-time performance).
At East Central, their first competition of the season, the band won third place out of twelve schools. Members are excited to compete and show their hard work this weekend.
“A lot of effort and time are put into preparing and performing our shows,” Alex Goodman said. “It’s a serious time commitment from everyone in the marching band.”
