Here are a few not so new artists that you probably haven’t heard of…
Mumford & Sons
Mumford & Sons is made up of Marcus Mumford, Country Winston, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane. They are an indie/folk/rock band based in London. They formed in late 2007 and have slowly been creeping into the subconscious of people around the world. Their single, Little Lion Man, was named the Hottest Record In The World Today by Zane Lowe on a recent Radio 1 show. Thistle and Weeds and White Blank Page were both featured in episodes of Grey’s Anatomy; and Roll Away Your Stone was featured in a trailer for the upcoming movie, Rango, starring Johnny Depp.
Matt and Kim
Matt and Kim consists of Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino who started singing together in 2004. Their genre is usually classified as indie dance-type music. They like to work with charities, and in 2010 worked to fight youth homelessness. Their song, Lessons Learned, won the Breakthrough Video award at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. The single, Daylight, is a popular song that has been and has been used in sporting events, featured in commercials, and numerous television shows, including Community and Entourage,
Tom Felton
Most know Tom Felton for his major role in the Harry Potter films as Draco Malfoy. A couple of years ago in the midst of his acting career, he started posting videos on YouTube under the account “Feltbeats” where he shared some of his written songs with the public. Nine of his songs have been re-recorded and are avaliable iTunes.
Noah and the Whale
Noah and the Whale originated around the same time and place as Mumford & Sons. The band members are Charlie Fink, Tom Hobden, Matt “Urby Whale” Owens, and Fredd Abbott. They are classified as indie folk and have an upbeat and soft sound. Their song Give a Little Love was used in an episode of Cougar Town and the song Blue Skies was used in an episode of One Tree Hill and the 2008 film, Yes Man. Their singles include: 5 Years Time, 2 Bodies 1 Heart, Shape of My Heart, L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N., Wild Thing.
Anya Marina
Anya Marina is from Michigan and is of Irish and Russian descent, giving her a unique singing voice. Her music has been featured in Grey’s Anatomy, How I Met Your Mother, and The Real World. Her song “Satellite Heart” was featured in the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack. Her most recent release, Spirit School EP, is out on iTunes.
