Barely edging Judson 4-3, boys soccer started postseason play with a win Mar. 28. The team will play Steele Friday 7 p.m. at Lehnhoff Stadium.
Judson scored first six minutes into the game. But, 22 minutes later, Chris McLeod, 12, scored on a breakaway play.
The team took the lead when Kye Morawietz, 11, made the keeper miss in a two-on-one match-up with seven minutes left in the first half.
“They were asleep for the first thirty minutes,” Coach Damion Simmons said. “Once they woke up, and started playing the game that we always play, we did fine.”
The second half was controlled mostly by the team, despite two more Judson goals late in theĀ half. Karl Anrin, 12, extended the lead to two, followed by another goal by Judson, then later Chris McLeod would score his second of the day, and a last second desperation goal by the Rockets would close the first round game.
“It’s the first time we scored four goals so it was really nice,” Simmons said. “If we can continue doing that, then we’ll be fine.”
