While I was coming back from Fantique, large blue filters in hand and cute little fish on the brain, I saw a sign that read, “Oriental rugs and antiques” So, being me, I had to turn and take a look.
Not everyone is like me, though. So usually when you’re driving down Hildebrand, about to turn onto IH10, you wouldn’t notice the brown and beige townhouse next to the Exxon gas station. Izzy’s Oriental Rugs and Antiques is one of many stores that line this busy street.
This store is filled with many interesting things. Some of which are a bit unconventional yet fitting to be sold there. You can find a wide variety of possessions there, including mini TVs and expensive blue detailed China. The prices are a little too high for my taste, but some things offered here are worth splurging on.
You can assume from the name that they sell rugs, two rooms full to be exact. So many in fact that they are stacked up on the floor and rolled up on the walls. Most prices range from $800- $1,500, depending on the rug. (Just a heads up for those of you who are… rug shopping?)
While there, you’ll sense a faint smell of grandma and old apple pie remains, so that should tell you that you’re getting the real old stuff.
Izzy’s is a great place to find random pieces of furniture. If you’re into the indie scene, and want some weird lamp on your 200 year old mahogany table, this could be the perfect place for you.
