We’re getting all sorts of mashed up in this edition! An acquaintance of mine said it best, “[Music is] just like people. Music can have a lot to offer when it is alone, but when you put people together; the best of them comes out.” Mashups offer this combination and let DJs create masterpieces. Let the songs preach themselves.
P.S. An extra perk of these “mashups” is that they’re part of the creative commons, which means that more often than not, they’re put up for free download.
Brush Your Bittersweet Shoulders Off: Jay-Z vs. The Verve
Youtube: Brush Your Bittersweet Shoulders Off
Basically, this song is EPIC. Epic in that it explodes in your ear buds with classical style music and Jay-z’s lyrical mastermind in “Dirt Off Your Shoulders”. Using the background of The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony” to create a great pump-up song, it’s perfect for easing pre-competition jitters or writing an essay.
Stone Temple Miley: Miley Cyrus vs. Stone Temple Pilots

SCANDALOUS! We’re suggesting you listen to the same girl who sings as Hannah Montana… This song is basically the cut-throat representation of what every Miley Cyrus song could sound like if she were less.. commercial. The song’s pretty sultry so it’s definitely something to play to spice up the atmosphere.
Heartless: The Fray vs. The Police and The Black Eyed Peas
DJ Earworm

Taking The Fray’s cover of Kanye West’s “Heartless” as the anchor song, The Peas’ “Boom, Boom, Pow” and others, this song is a more soulful rendition of Kanye’s “Heartless” without sacrificing the original techno-esque style.
I Won’t Dance Remix: Fred Astaire
Step Up 3D Soundtrack
Youtube: I Won’t Dance Remix
“I WON’T DANCE”… But I will pop, lock, and drop it. For any other Frank Sinatra fans out there, Fred Astaire comes as a (distant) second in my heart. This remix of “I Won’t Dance” takes a classic Big Band Era song and modernizes it by adding in a few bits and pieces of more classic Hip-Hop songs. Definitely something to check out when in the mood for something a little bit faster than Sinatra.
“Baby”: The Neon Trees Remix
Download link: HERE
Neon Trees is known for their incredibly dance-y hit “Animal”, their cover of Justin Bieber’s “Baby” is irresistibly… ludicrous (pardon the semi- pun!). They’ve replaced Luda’s rap with the oldie hit “Stand By Me”, adding a softer finish to the song, making it perfect for dancing or, dare I say it, singing in the shower.
