Nintendo fans can once again duke it out in the newest addition to the Smash Bros series, Super Smash Bros, available on the 3DS for the time being.
Once again, players can play as characters from their favorite Nintendo series, such as Pokemon, The Legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem, and Mario. Several favorites return in the new game, including Marth from Fire Emblem, Pikachu from Pokemon, and Link from The Legend of Zelda. There are also several new characters, including Palutena from Kid Icarus, Villager from the Animal Crossing series, and Mega Man from the Mega Man series. There are also several game modes that you can play in other than the traditional Smash. These game modes include Classic Mode, All-Star Mode, Stadium, and Smash Run, each with their own challenges and appeal.
A great thing about this game is the ability to customize your own fighter. You can import your Mii into the game and make it a Brawler, a Sword Fighter, or a Gunman. There are different hats and suits that you can put your Mii in to make it a bit more personalized. The option to make a custom character is also there, as you can choose one of the fighter, like Pikachu, and add different equipment to improve its power, defense, or speed.
Another amazing thing about this game is just the fact that it is on the 3DS, making Super Smash Bros the first game in the series ever to be on a handheld console. It also plays amazingly well on the 3DS.
One of the only ‘bad’ things about this game is the annoyance of some of the challenges. There are three challenge pages in the game with a series of challenge panels, each with a challenge on it. While most of the challenges are fun to try to get, some are extremely tedious, such as completing the 100-Man Smash mode with every single character. With there being over 30 characters, this, and several other challenges become either to boring or too challenging to be fun.
With all that said, Super Smash Bros for the 3DS is an amazingly fun game. Between all the characters, the fun game modes, and the challenges, I give Super Smash Bros 5 out of 5 stars. On a personal note, fighting games aren’t really my thing, but this is one that even I truly enjoyed.
