American Horror Story is an anthology series, meaning that each season is a different story, with different characters, with the same cast and a new setting.
“American Horror Story is one of the best shows I have ever seen. It’s dark, and funny, and clever, and incredibly well made,” junior Alyssah Ramos said.
The creators of the show decided they wanted to write about the horror that exists in the real world. Infidelity, murder, psychotic individuals, major twist and horror. The show deals with a lot of very intense themes, but it does so very well.
“You never know what is going to happen, [it] is always a mystery, and ends up being a unexpecting twist,” junior Miguel De Leon said.
The cinematography alone is a work of art. Ever character is so perfectly crafted, and so wonderfully complex that it is impossible to guess what’s going to happen next. It relies less on conventional horror, and more on leaving the viewer to fill in the gaps of what’s happening in the shadows.
“The new season of American Horror Story was better than I expected, It was dark but had a lot more color,” sophomore Alexis Ybarra said.
This season named “Freak Show,” focuses on a group of freaks living in Jupiter, Florida in the 1950s.
Elsa Mars (Jessica Lange), the leader of a circus for freaks that has fallen on hard times and needs a new act to pack the theater.
They recruit conjoined twins Bette and Dot (Sarah Paulson) to save the rundown circus show. The twins are their only hope for success, but are hiding a dark secret that could get everyone on the campsite in a lot of trouble.
“The episodes that have been show have been great, it keeps you on your toes, and there [are] different twists [in] each episode [that] makes it that much more fun,” junior Adela Zuskind said.
Freak show is a TV show that’s mixes such random, senseless violence with moments of heart-tugging sincerity. Although trouble and, temptations still lurk around every corner in Jupiter and it seems everyone has a plan on how to make their life better.
You should watch Freak Show because the show is dark, spooky, and unsettling, but at the same time it is intriguing and captivating. There are themes of clowns, psychotics, and “freaks” just for starters. Trust me, the first time you watch it, you will be left speechless. There are so many things going on and so many questions that need to be answered, that it has already attained the title of the third most-watched scripted drama on cable.
