Carrying over the momentum from last week’s win, the team faced the (7-1 W-L) Reagan Rattlers at Comalander Stadium Oct. 24. Reagan scored early and capitalized on three Mac turnovers. The Brahmas ended up losing 45-20, dropping their record to 2-2 in district.
Usually accurate and explosive, junior quarterback Josh Jung was pressured by Reagan’s skilled secondary and defensive line. The dynamic run game was also stagnate, as Mac was held to a season low 2.5 yards per carry.
A huge loss for the team happened just a few minutes into the game, on Mac’s first possession. Senior running back Isiah Dennis was tackled and left the field holding his ribs, he did not return. This forced Daijon Williams to move strictly to running back and attempt to ignite the comeback.
“I had to try to carry the team and keep the offense going,” Williams said. “Isiah is a really good player for our offense, so I just had to keep it going.”
Daijon managed to catch a screen pass and explode for a 70 yard touchdown, giving the team hope, and cutting the lead to 17-6 at the time. However, Reagan continued its dominance and went on to lead at halftime 31-6. The Brahmas created chances in the 2nd half but unfortunately could not capitalize enough to get the win.
“It was just like the Churchill game, exactly like it, and we came up short again,” Williams said.
The team plays Roosevelt next fri., and a win locks the team into the playoffs. The offensive and defensive lines should be dominant against the winless Rough Riders. This will open up the run lanes, and the passing game, for the offense. However, Daijon knows from experience at defensive back, that a key to winning games lies on the other side of the ball.
“Defense, our defense needs to improve, a lot,” Williams said.
