Because of their performance in the 2015 District 2 DECA Career Development Conference Jan. 8th in Schertz, junior Kassie Espinoza and junior Vivian Curtis have qualified for the state competition Feb. 25 in Dallas. DECA is a business marketing club with categories ranging from finance to marketing.
“Our school has the least amount of participants in DECA,” Curtis said.
With a lack of students in DECA at Mac, Vivian and Cassie represented the best. Competing in the Decision Making, Hospitality and Tourism event, the girls had 30 minutes to wow the judges and prove that they deserved the spot in state.
At first I didn’t know how we were going to do, but, when we went to district last year, we ended up going to state,” Curtis said.
DECA is a great program that helps prepare students for college and even beyond. With categories specializing in about everything needed for any business major, DECA is a worthwhile experience.
“Kassie wanted me to join DECA with her last year, and it was really fun,” Curtis said.
Combined with business management, DECA is a great way to prepare for college and helps students manage not only their physical components, but also their time for school work and home life.
“DECA goes by really fast and its really fun to do, I’m very excited for state,” Curtis said.
