After attending 65 years worth of school football games, Mr. Glen Bartholomew, long-time Brahma fan, passed away Feb. 27. Bartholomew’s funeral will be held Fri. March 6, at 9 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, preceded by a viewing on Thur., March 5 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North from 6-8 p.m.
“All of his kids went through Mac,” Mrs. Debbie Marvin said. “He has been a part of the school since pretty much the very beginning.”
In his early years, Mr. Bartholomew was a part of the Seebee (Construction Battalion) Navy unit for four years during World War II. Also, he helped build the runway that carried the first atomic bomb’s plane into the air to Hiroshima, Japan.
Staying in Texas throughout his whole life, with other family living in Fredericksburg, he raised his children here and went to high school at Harlandale.
“I remember this one time he told a story about riding a horse to school,” Principal Peter Martinez said. “At that time, Harlandale was out there, in the wide open, and he would be able to easily take his horse to school.”
Mr. Bartholomew bought two tickets for every football game (Section C/ Row 33/ Seats 28 and 29 at Comalander Stadium)- one for his wife, one for himself. He had 4 children- Joyce, Glen Jr., Jeanne, and Margie.
“I’d like to tell his family that everyone at Mac appreciates his support and will never forget his humble smile and kind heart,” Martinez said. “I hope they hold onto his memory, he truly was an amazing man.”
