Opening district play against the solid Madison Mavericks, the baseball team won 8-4 on March 17 behind exceptional pitching and timely hitting.
Junior Josh Jung started the game on the mound and pitched 5 scoreless innings before getting pulled to allow senior Steven Cardone to close out the game.
Capitalizing on runners in scoring position was critical in the win. The entire batting order felt comfortable against the Mavericks’ pitchers, as 5 different players had at least 1 RBI (Runs Batted In). Junior Paul De La Rosa led the Brahmas with 3 RBI, which sparked the team’s confidence in the win.
“You always have to be on top of your game to get the job done and help out your team in anyway that you can,” De La Rosa said.
The team plays Churchill on Friday at Blossom and will look to show the district that they are a serious contender to win the district title. The boys know how critical it was to start the district season off with a convincing win.
“It’s very important,” De La Rosa said. “When you get ready for district, you set the standards high and have to be ready to play.”
