Only three weeks into the district season, the baseball team faced Reagan March 3 in a battle for sole possession of first place. The team ended up losing their first district game 4-0, putting them at 3-1(W-L), and second in district.
The game featured arguably the two best pitchers in the district, Reagan’s Andres Sosa and MacArthur’s Josh Jung. The aces did not disappoint, despite both being juniors. Josh Jung struggled early as Reagan put up four runs in the first inning on two costly errors and only two hits. However, he would bounce back to retire 11 straight batters over the next 4 innings.
While pitching was dominant in this game, Mac had opportunities to score and left numerous men on base with some in scoring position. This was ultimately the difference in the game.
“It’s just one of those days,” SS, Steven Cardone said. “We’ll definitely work on it but some hits didn’t fall, we hurt ourselves a little bit but it’s just one of those days.”
The team now holds second place and will have a shot at the Rattlers again later in the season. Steven knows that now every game is now more significant in this tough district.
“[This loss] will fuel us next time that we play them,” Cardone said. “This’ll make us win the games that we’re supposed to win, and it’ll make those games even bigger, ”
Next on the schedule is Roosevelt on Thursday at Basse-McCullough field.
