Better the second time

Last time the girls soccer team played Brandeis, the teams tied at the end of regulation 1-1. This time, the match ended a lot differently.

A back and forth battle between the two teams ended the first half in a 0-0 draw. In the second half, the team gained the lead and eventually won 2-0 Thursday at BAC-East and now moves on to the Regional Quarterfinal round.

With the final ten minutes of the game upon them, the girls started to attack the net more and were able to clinch the lead. Junior defender Vanessa Lecocq scored first on a free kick from deep positioning outside the box.

“I was so happy, honestly,” Lecocq said. “There are no words to describe my happiness.”

Sophomore defender Neely Haby would go on to seal the victory with a goal from inside the box in the 76th minute. Despite the cluttered mass of defenders and teammates, Haby kicked the ball wanting “to score a goal” and victoriously found the back of the net.

Shortly after, fans began to cheer “Start the bus!” symbolizing that they believed the win was already in their grasp. After the win this afternoon, Lecocq sees this team as going “to state.”
