With two home runs, including a grand slam, 6 for 9, 7 RBIs, and four runs to keep her team in the running for district, freshman Kiersten Licea was awarded player of the week for her outstanding performance at the past two softball games.
“I feel really proud of myself,” Licea said. “It is not everyday a freshman gets an award like this.”
Kiersten puts in many hours attempting to perfect her softball skills, along with the help of her family and her coaches.
“Coach is really proud of me,” Licea said. “He wasn’t that surprised though because he knew it was coming.”
Licea says she didn’t think she would get something like player of the week, but she knows that she has improved overall. Although she prefers playing first base, her coach knows she can play wherever he needs her.
“I can play mostly anywhere,” Licea said. “But I feel more comfortable at first.”
Playing first base and proving herself to not only her teammates but to her herself, the team feels that Licea deserved player of the week.
