Christmas is right around the corner, and the only thing better than all of the presents under the tree is the food. If you’re someone who is feeling creative this holiday season and want a cheap and easy gift to give someone, this is the recipe for you.
All you will need is:
Saltine crackers (can also use Ritz crackers)
2 sticks (1 cup) butter, cubed
1 cup soft light brown sugar, packed
2 cups chocolate chips
½ to 1 cup M&M’s, chopped nuts, sliced almonds, or any other topping you desire
Directions:
First step is to preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Do this first so it’s ready ahead of time.
Next, line a large cookie sheet (or any large rectangular baking dish will do) with foil and spray the foil with nonstick cooking spray. Line the pan with your crackers.
Then place the butter and brown sugar in large saucepan and melt the butter over low to medium heat. Once the butter has melted, bring to a boil for about 2-3 minutes. Be sure to stir constantly so the sugar doesn’t burn or stick to the bottom of the pan.
Once it’s bubbly, remove pan from the heat and pour over the crackers. Spread mixture evenly and be sure to work fast, it will harden quickly.
Place your pan in your preheated oven and bake for 6-8 minutes.
Remove the pan from the oven and then sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the toffee while it’s still hot. Let the chocolate melt then spread evenly all over the toffee.
Sprinkle candy can bits, or desired topping, on top and place in the freezer for 30 minutes (I know, I’m sorry).
Once your candy has hardened, break off the pieces onto a serving plate, a container, or into your mouth.
This recipe is easy, inexpensive, and absolutely delicious. Happy holidays.
