For movie fans everywhere, 2016 is an exciting year with a variety of geeky and action-packed films coming out. Some are much awaited sequels, others are stand alones and starts to new movie series. Here are seven of the much anticipated movies of the first half of 2016.
Kung Fu Panda 3– Coming out on Jan. 29, Kung Fu Panda 3 is the third movie in the Kung Fu Panda series. Po is greeted by his long lost father and finds out that there is an entire hidden valley of pandas. After finding out about not being the only panda left in China, Po must train all of his new friends and family in order to defend the valley from Kai, an evil spirit who has been going around and stealing the powers of Kung Fu masters.
Deadpool– Everyone’s favorite Marvel anti-hero finally comes to theaters Deadpool hits the big screen on Feb. 12. This movie tells the story of Wade Wilson, a former special forces operative with a very special form of cancer. In his search for a cure, he goes into a experiment that disfigures him which gives him special powers and the twisted sense of humor that makes him into Deadpool.
Zootopia– Zootopia comes to theaters Mar. 4. In a world where humans never evolved, animals run the show. Judy Hopps, a rabbit in the police force, teams up with a fox and con artist, Nick Wilde, in order to solve a small missing animal case and find themselves facing much larger and more pressing matter of an outbreak of a Savage sickness.
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice– Flying onto the silver screen, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice comes out on Mar. 25. As more of a sequel to Man of Steel, this film is about the masked vigilante of Gotham, Batman, meeting the now worshipped and revered alien hero, Superman. First, they fight as enemies until they must work together in order to defeat Lex Luthor, a man fixated on beating Superman.
Captain America: Civil War– Coming out on May 6, Captain America: Civil War is about the splitting of the Avengers due to the government passing a law trying to regulate when the superhero team is allowed to operate. The split is between Captain America, who opposes the regulation, and Iron Man, who supports the government’s choice. With a team divided, they must also face a new enemy that neither side can fight alone.
The Angry Birds Movie– The Angry Birds Movie launches into theaters on May 20. Based off the wildly popular mobile game, the movie takes place on an island where all of the Angry Birds live in “peace” together. Along come the Bad Piggies and now all of the Angry Birds must come together to find out the pigs’ evil plan and stop it before it’s too late.
X-Men Apocalypse– Releasing on May 27, X-Men Apocalypse is the ninth installment to the movie series and follows the now recently rebooted storyline that was introduced in the end of X-Men Days of Future Past. The fate of the entire world, for mutants and normal people alike, is endangered by Apocalypse, an ancient and possibly the first mutant, awakens and builds a team of mind-controlled mutants to rid the world of humanity. The X-Men must now defeat this super powerful mutant before his plot to “cleanse” the world comes to fruition.
