It all comes to this, everybody’s hard work leads up to the few moments of glory on stage and a trophy that commemorates the achievement. The film and music awards season takes place annually between November and February. During this time the best motion pictures, actors performances, records and albums are evaluated and the best of the best are rewarded at numerous award ceremonies.
The Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards honors the best achievements in film and television performances. Among the winners were Uzo Aduba for Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series, Alicia Vikander for Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role, and Leonardo DiCaprio for Best Male Actor in a Leading Role.
“I think it’s great that Orange Is the New Black won several awards because the cast is great and finally there is some diversity, but honestly I was expecting them to win because a lot of people love the show,” junior Marissa Villanueva said.
The Golden Globes Awards are another ceremony that honors the best motion pictures. Some of the winners were Jennifer Lawrence for her performance in Joy, Leonardo DiCaprio for his performance in The Revenant, and The Martian won Best Comedy.
“I’m so glad The Revenant won, it was such a great movie and Leonardo DiCaprio really did an excellent job portraying the character, plus it was a fan favorite,” junior Maddie Hamby said. “The special effects and set were also really amazing.”
The Grammy Awards recognize achievements in the music industry, including album of the year, song of the year, and best new artist. The winners were Taylor Swift for Album of the Year, Ed Sheeran for Song of the Year, Meghan Trainor for Best New Artist, and Bruno Mars for Record of the Year.
“I love that Taylor Swift won because she really deserved it,” junior Megan Pace said. “Her songs off of this album were played all the time on the radio and she really connects with her fans too.”
Finally, The Academy Awards or “Oscars” are an annual award ceremony that recognizes the best achievements in the film industry. The winners are Leonardo DiCaprio for Best Actor, Brie Larson for Best Actress, Spotlight for Best Picture, and Alejandro G. Iñárritu for Best Director. The Oscars premiered Feb. 28, 2016 which marks the end of the awards season, so stay tuned for there will be a followup story about who won and who was robbed of the golden trophy.
