Spring break is coming up soon and we have it earlier than most of the other school districts. Starting Mar. 5, plans might be set or you might just go with the flow. For those who have nothing planned, here are some ideas for a cheap getaway right here in Texas.
Lost Maples State Natural Area:
These amazing nature trails are absolutely breathtaking. There are rivers, hills, and large weirdly shaped rocks like the Monkey Rock, an attraction as you walk along the different trails. There are different types of trials which consist of easy, moderate, and challenging. Each trial has suggested time amounts so you know about how long you’ll be walking for. For one person it’s six dollars and children under 12 years of age are free.
This garden is like a portal to somewhere unknown and bright green. In the middle of the garden is a large pond where you can see fish, turtles, and sometimes ducks. I believe the best part of the garden is the beautiful waterfall. But what’s even better is that going to the garden is absolutely free. So whenever you’re done walking around the garden maybe take a stroll through Brackenridge Park, which is right across the street from the garden.
The San Antonio Art Museum is my favorite museum. They have a skywalk, excellent artwork from all over the world, and so many different cultures are represented. In the museum, there’s a room full of ancient sculptures that are indescribable. Normally there is a charge for entry which costs between 20 to 12 dollars, but on Tuesdays, it’s free from 4 to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. I do believe that The San Antonio Art Museum is a place that you should go to at least once in your life.
The Mcnay is my second favorite museum and the scenery is magnificent. The museum is in an old Spanish house that is constructed brilliantly with the same tile and ceiling from when it was originally crafted. My favorite part is a small section of glass vases that have different never seen before designs that will blow you away. Again this museum normally has an admission of 10 dollars for teens 13-19 years old, but on Thursdays from 4 to 9 p.m. Admission is free.
Downtown you will never not find a place to go. The Market is a very lively place filled with Hispanic culture. In the Market, there is Centro de Artes, a museum filled with masterpieces. Right now they have an exhibit that is featuring Immigrant artists, art from around the world. This museum is free for you to walk in and start looking around.
