Republican former President Donald Trump, and Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris ran for the U.S presidential election which took place Nov 5, 2024. Most of the senior class is now old enough to vote, alongside the teachers and staff. Some took this chance to vote because they believed it was important.
“Yes I voted, because I thought I had to. I thought it would make a difference,” Senior Chris Dougherty said.
Others however, took time to truly think about what this meant and whether or not it was the best decision for them.
“No, I didn’t vote. I felt like it wasn’t my place, I’m still young, I was thinking about voting the next time it came around,” Senior Joshua Speed said.
This was an important election for the country. It was a toss up between two candidates that tried their hardest to win over the people.
“We determine our own leaders, and who we vote for matters,” Science teacher Chanhyun Shim said.
The voices of the citizens deserve to be heard. The point of America and its democracy is that the people have the power.
“There’s a Korean saying, ‘You gather the dust and you make a big mountain’. So one candidate got elected, and that’s because of literally everyone that voted for that person. Everyone’s vote counts, no matter how small it seems,” Shim said.
