With the hope of making it to playoffs and even state this year, the baseball team is preparing for their season. The games have just begun and the team has high expectations for their performance and their future achievements.
“We’re looking to start hot and then just keep things going, keep things rolling,” senior catcher, Ben Salazar said. “Hopefully towards the end of this season, we’ll be ready to go into the playoffs and we’ll be in our best form of the season.”
The team also has ambitious personal goals that drive them to keep improving their game and moving their team forward.
“My goal is to stay up there at the top with our batting averages, and then be all district again, and then hopefully get an offer to play at college,” senior catcher, JT Gray said.
Last year the baseball team made it into the playoffs, performing under high pressure against some of the most skilled teams in the conference.
“I think we could have gone further, but with the team we have I think that we did a lot of good,” Gray said.
The varsity team’s next game is set for Friday, Feb. 7 against Boerne High School. The team encourages students to come to the game at NE Sports Park at 4:30 p.m. The JV game starts at the same time at Boerne High School.
“Baseball games are always electric. I feel like we do a great job speeding up the pace of the game and making it really fun to watch,” Salazar said.
For some of the team members, it’s the family they find in the team and the sense of community they gain from it that makes the game enjoyable.
“Baseball at MacArthur is just such a family. All of us love each other, the parents love each other, we all love our community. … I think we make it more than just about baseball,” Salazar said.
