This past Saturday, Feb. 1, our school had the opportunity to host the International Competition of Collegiate A Cappella. It was a great opportunity and experience, especially for senior PR Officer Erik Torres.
Q1: What exactly happened on Saturday?
The choir competition, ICCA, was a couple of acapella groups from different colleges that came together to compete for a chance in the semi-final and final rounds. So we got the opportunity to host the competition.
Q2: How did you prepare for hosting the competition?
We helped set up rooms for them to stay in, set up the stage to be ready for their performance itself.
Q3: Do you enjoy being a part of choir, and getting the chance to do things like this?
Yeah, I love it. I love being in both choir and acapella. The years that I’ve been in choir, I think you find a sense of emotion and passion different than you typically have.
Q4: Was it a good experience? Was hosting fun?
It was great. We were making sure the little things were good, all the way down to parking in the right spots, to leading them to their rooms and making sure that they were comfortable. And then gathering them to listen for instructions. We got to watch the way that they worked and the way they performed and for a whole lot of us, it was a great experience
Q5: What was the most memorable thing about this?
“It was a learning experience, just getting to watch other acapella groups was definitely a thing to remember.
