This month, the district’s Family Engagement Liaison, Sabrina Lara sponsored a Master Braiding Class for students to attend during their lunch. This class was open on Feb. 25 in room D141 to any student who registered beforehand.
Q1: Will you guys ever have another one of these classes?
“I would love to have the class again. This was a volunteer from the community that provided their services so it depends on if they are free.”
Q2: What was the reason for starting the class?
“The goal was to give students an opportunity to learn during their lunch periods because after school students have to leave on the bus and cannot stay to learn a new skill at times due to transportation. And also was an introduction to celebrating Black History Month.”
Q3: Why are you providing the class to students?
“The reason for the class was to give students an opportunity to learn a skill that they could use to possibly have financial gains within the community.”
Q4: How did you get the master to teach braiding to the students?
“This was a community member that contacted me and we had a meeting to see if this was possible with approval by Principal Hernandez. “
