At the start of the school year, the district made the decision to mandate smart tags for bus transportation. This addition has changed school transportation significantly by now allowing bus drivers to see immediate information about the students stop, route, and time of departure, just from the swipe of a card makes the students, drivers, parents and districts life much easier by being fast and simple to use.
Smart tags have had a huge increase in the security and safety of all students who use bus transportation and better allow communication between parents and bus drivers.
“I’m for smart tags because it’s an easy way to tell if someone is on that bus or not” freshman Gage Ricker said “I like it when the bus driver says ‘Bus tags, where are your smart tags!’”
The smart tags have made bus drivers jobs increasingly easier but has it had the same positive effect on students? There are lots of benefits for both drivers and parents such as allowing duties to be performed faster and better communication but how do students feel about this and how does this help students as well
“I am Against because everybody is just going to lose them anyways so it’ll be just pointless,” freshman Van Cook said
What happens If a student lost or misplaced his or her tag? They must wait to be boarded last and this is because the drivers have to manually put the students’ information when they board and depart.
“I am against it because I dislike how much I have to do just to scan it,” freshman Avorie Ochoa said
The school made several efforts to say that if a student doesn’t have a smart tag they are not eligible to ride the bus at all.but this is partially true because students are still able to ride the bus they’ll just be at the end of the line and boarded last.
“I am Against because they do not serve any purpose once so ever, when I get on my morning and afternoon bus I am not asked to scan it” freshman Alex Ramirez said.”The only reason I got the tag was because the announcements said “If you don’t have the tag you can’t ride the bus” which clearly isn’t the case”.
