As multiple college and military representatives come to visit, college advisor Ava Rose Sommer is on the job to help students get information about the colleges, career and technical school options for their future.
“The main [benefit] would be having any of your questions that you may have answered. But even more than that, if you don’t have many questions, you can still go and learn, and just explore the opportunities and options there,” Sommer said. “That never hurts. So, just a lot of information gathering. [Also,] a huge benefit would be making contact with that recruiter, so as soon as you meet them and they’re able to meet you face to face, you’re putting yourself in their network. That’s really important because it gives you a foot in to whatever college or military group is recruiting.”
Besides benefits, Sommer also gives her perspective on what grades should visit these representatives.
“All are welcome! Mainly, seniors and juniors,” Sommer said.
Furthermore, Sommer will provide information on where students can find additional help on college and military information.
“[Students can go to] the College and Career center, room D143, or email Ms. Sommer at [either] [email protected] or [email protected],” Sommer said.
If students missed out on a certain visit from a college or military group, Sommer reassures students that this is one of many events that will take place and that there will be others throughout the school year.
“Definitely, yes. Many, many,” Sommer said.
