American television viewers may find themselves without enough time to watch the variety of shows lined up for fall primetime television. Even with the help of TiVos and DVRs, battling time slots and budding new shows will leave many crawling back to Hulu and OnDemand programs to catch the ones they missed. With school, jobs, and extracurriculars, students have found they can’t fit any new shows in their schedules.
“I just don’t have time to watch T.V.,” Claire Dufault, junior, said.
For those with the time, Mario Lopez’s confrontational H8R, Stephen Spielberg produced Terra Nova, and Simon Cowell’s new performance competition series The X-Factor lead the host of new shows premiering this season. The New Girl Zooey Deschanel will join her sister Emily (Dr. Brennan from Bones) in the television realm. Jennifer Morrison (Dr. Cameron from House) headlines her own show Once Upon A Time – a twist upon the Snow White fairytale. A variety of original plot lines accompany other eye-catching names: Christina Ricci (Sleepy Hollow) in Pan Am, Claire Danes in Homeland, Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) in Ringer, and Kat Dennings (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) in 2 Broke Girls. Cast and crew of the new productions do their best to pry committed fans from their already established favorites.
Vying for the top ratings, returning shows also sport some alterations. Law & Order: SVU will begin its first season without Chris Meloni (Elliot Stabler), and the cast of The Office must try to carry on their tradition of hilarity without Steve Carell (Michael Scott). Dexter, Supernatural, and other cult classics will reconvene in full force while esteemed crime dramas like NCIS, Criminal Minds, and CSI jump right into their thrills and chills.
While some may not have enough time to catch the alluring new shows and recurring classics, the masses will find themselves drawn to the small screen this fall.
“I can not wait for Glee to start running back up. That’s all I’ve been looking forward too!,” Colleen Whiting, senior, said.
