“Our goal is like last year’s; to work hard everyday and make it to playoffs,” junior Blake Johnson said.
Starting the district season off playing the Johnson Jaguars, the varsity volleyball team took a hit to their record and lost the game 0 matches to 3. Not letting the disappointing loss affect their work ethic or influence their prime goal of playoffs, the Brahma girls came back big in the next three games. On September 13 the girls played the Roosevelt Roughriders and beat them in three back to back games.
On September 16 they left no room for error and out for volleyball blood the team took down one of N.E.I.S.D.’s volleyball super powers; the Churchill Chargers. On that day, after a 30 year losing streak, history was made as the Lady Brahmas beat them in another three back to back matches.
“The Churchill game seriously was a big win for us. It’s something that I will always remember,” junior Kali Sprofera said.
After the victory against the Chargers, the girls went into the Reagan game, another volleyball super power whom MacArthur has failed to overcome in years past, ready to bring home another victory. Doing just that, they won the game 3 matches to 2 in an intense game that left everyone off their seats.
Following the Reagan game they took on the Lee Volunteer’s [September 23rd] and Hay’s High School [September 27th] where they beat both teams in 3 consecutive matches.
Hoping to keep this winning streak alive and achieve their goals, the girls play the Madison Mavericks Friday, September 30th at 8 P.M. at Blossom Athletic Center.
