Senior year is a scary time. College is before us, and choices, applications, and counselors are an everyday thing. If you don’t know what college to go to do not fear, there are colleges for everything that are easy to get into to, close to home, and are not a strain on the wallet.
The closest university in the North East area, and is a part of the University of Texas system. The University just drafted a football program and will always be looking for new recruits. UTSA consist of the College of Architecture, the College of Business, the College of Education and Human Development, the College of Engineering, the College of Liberal and Fine Arts, the College of Public Policy, College of Sciences, and the Honors College and has a total of 130 different degree plans. Admissions are fairly easy if you are in the top 25% there is no minimum SAT or ACT score, but if you are in the the top 26%-50% there is a minimum 960 SAT score (critical reading and math only) and 20 for the ACT. Tuition ranges from 8,000 to 16,000 depending on your housing conditions.
Another great university if you are tight with money. The University of Houston Cougars is a great school, consisting 109 majors and minors, and 131 master’s and doctoral degree programs. Admissions are stricter than UTSA but not as bad as an Ivy League School. If you are in the top 15% there is no minimum ACT and SAT score, 16-25% requires at least a 1000 SAT score (critical reading and math only) or a 21 ACT composite. If you fall within the 26-50 percent range the SAT is increased to 1100 and the ACT to 24. Tuition ranges from $10,000 to $20,000, depending on your housing situation.
Texas Tech University
The farthest university on this list and the most difficult to get into compared to the other two. Texas Tech is a revered college with a proud and rich history. Texas Tech offers 131 majors and minors ranging from agriculture to art. If you are in the first quarter there is a minimum SAT of 1140 or an ACT of 25, second quarter requires a 1230 or a 28, and also allows third quarter students with a minimum SAT of 1230 or an ACT of 29. Tuition ranges from 8,000 to 16,000 depending if you live on campus.
