Student Council’s D.A.S.H. committee and Olive Garden have partnered with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for their Pasta for Pennies fundraiser this spring. The committee will give each third period class a donation box if their teacher agrees to participating in the fundraiser.
“Students and teachers are allowed to bring donation money to put in the box,” Sarah Smith, junior, said. The third period class with the most donations will receive a free lunch from Olive Garden.
One hundred percent of the donations are going to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma. It’s mission is to “improve the quality of life of the patients and their families.” The money will not be used to pay for the lunch; Olive Garden is paying for it themselves.
The organization also holds fundraisers throughout the nation, some being Team in Training and the Light the Night Walk. They use the money raised to fund research for finding cures for blood cancer. In 2011 alone, the Society raised more than $76 million dollars in blood cancer research. Let’s help them raise more money for research in 2012- get in the giving spirit, Mac, and donate!
