With spring here we prepare for the next big event, because in Texas we do everything BIG, even Fiesta. The next two weeks (4/20-4/29) will be bombarded with countless events such as Taste of New Orleans, Oyster Bake, NIOSA, Battle of Flowers Parade and of course Fiesta Flambeau Parade.
Taste of New Orleans, three days filled with spicy food and the smooth sounds of New Orleans, will be held in the Sunken Gardens Theatre April 20-22. There will be Cajun and Creole cooking like gumbo, crayfish, etouffes, red beans, and Cajun fried fish. The music ambience will range from Dixieland jazz to smooth jazz to zydeco to R&B and a brass band. The Taste of New Orleans is family friendly oriented so while you have a good time dancing or eating yummy food your parents can enjoy it as well.
Oyster Bake usually serves up to 100,000 oysters raw, baked, or fried each year, but if you’re not into seafood they have plenty of other booths serving up foods like fajitas and egg rolls. While munching on food you can walk around the grounds of St. Mary’s University listening to one of the five stages that will have live music. You can enjoy this festivity on April 20- 21.
A Night In Old San Antonio takes place in the historic La Villita were you can come and celebrate the city’s unique heritage. More than 240 elaborately decorated food and drink booths and more than a dozen nonstop entertainment stages represent the diverse cultures and customs of the city in 15 heritage-themed areas. Celebrate your heritage April 24- 27.
Battle of Flowers Parade takes place on April 27. The theme this year will be “Where Fiesta Began” which symbolizes the first parade that took place 120 years ago and was hosted by the Battle of Flowers Association. Marching through will be ROTC units marching showing off perfect drills, giant vibrant floats, antique cars and magnificent carriages.
