Mixed emotions were left on Blossom Athletic Center-West Soccer Field on Tuesday as the varsity boys beat Reagan 3-2 in overtime, while the girls walked away less fortunate with a 3-0 loss to Johnson. The boy’s team advanced to regional semifinal play.
The boys started out dominating the first half, scoring two goals and maintaining majority of ball possession. Senior Victor Rivas scored the first goal with an assist from sophomore Zengwei Tong. The second score came from Tong with a few minutes left in the first half. After halftime, the Reagan Rattlers picked up the pace, answering the first two goals with two of their own, with the tying goal arriving late in the second half. Overtime was concluded with a header once more from Rivas.
Post-game was full of celebration as the boys toppled on top of each other and cheered in the middle of the field. After the players exited the field, Head Coach Michael Barranco congratulated the Blue Crew and rest of the crowd, calling them the “best fans in the state of Texas.”
The boys play Brownsville-Hanna tomorrow, April 12, at Blossom Athletic Center-West at 5 p.m.
