To make the UIL State Band is an honor. This year, three members had enough talent to qualify. They have worked for it since freshman year and finally made it. Now, these three students will perform with the rest of the state band at the TEMA Clinic/Convention from Feb. 9-12 in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center:
Andrew Duke: Senior, trombone
Allison Jayroe: Senior, flute
Jeff Lerette: Junior, bass clarinet
Making the state band doesn’t just give you a special patch on your letterman, it opens doors for your future. Listing your spot on the state band won’t be overlooked on a college application. TEMA is even hosting a college night for all-state members to speak with representatives from musical institutions. In other words, it’s a big deal.
It’s no small time convention. TEMA has gathered over 25,000 attendees in recent years. The convention hosts over 200 workshops and 50 performances from elementary to college level for band, orchestra, and choir.
The invite to perform during the convention is exclusive. These students have made it, and now is the time to show that they are the best of the best in Texas.
