Cage the Cougars by Slidely Slideshow
After an emotional 33-7 rout of the Clark Cougars, saturday september 20th at Farris Stadium, the varsity football team has picked up a head of steam going into this week’s battle with rival Madison.
Saturday night the team displayed an impressive and refreshing edge that has not been seen in some years. Lead by a constant onslaught of the duo Daijon Williams and Isiah Dennis, the team muscled their way to their second victory of the non district season.
Over the last two games, the Brahma’s defense has been stout and disrupting to their opponents, giving up just 21 points over the last eight quarters, resulting in two Mac victories. When asked about the drastic improvement of the defense this season, Coach Benjamin Cook gives the credit to the kids.
“They’ve decided that last year was not acceptable and they said let’s go to work, let’s get better, and they took it as a personal challenge, and they’re answering it,” Cook said.
The offensive line has been above average also this year, in both the run game and pass protection. Opening up holes that Daijon and Isiah bursted through all night against
Clark, as they combined to rush for three touchdowns.
But the two running backs’ impact was not just measured by their yards and their touchdowns.
“[Running the ball] allows us to control the clock, we can control time, we can control the pace of the game. When you grind it out with those two guys, it’s a lot of fun,” Cook said.
With Madison coming up this sat. the team has ended the pre season just about as well as one could ask for. With playoff aspirations and a very capable team, the Brahmas look able to compete with any team in the district.
“We have to get in there and grind now, because everyone’s zero-zero, all this was preparation,” Cook said, “We’ve got to put a great game plan together, go out and execute and get after them, [Madison] because they’re a good football team.”
