Today as high school students, students are pressured with the stress of having to do well in school while juggling thier first job. With all the different options to choose from, some students might love the first job they get while others may hate it.
“I do like my job,” senior Sierra Scafido said. “I think it is important for young adults to have and learn different responsibilities.”
While some students enjoy their jobs not all can say they feel the same way.
“No, [I do not like my job],” junior Cleo Hyer said. “The people [I work with] are rude and don’t treat me like a person.”
However Hyer chooses to stay for a number of reasons;
“It’s a chance [for me] to get job experience,” Hyer said. “I have a couple of friends [who work with me], and I need the money.”
For some students finding reasons to stay is easier for them than it is for others.
“I like my job [at Raising Cane’s], mainly because [my co-workers] they’re really cool along with my manager,” senior Garrion Tarlton said. “[Also], I like the customer service [we have there].”
First jobs aren’t as temporary as students think they are, some students find themselves making long term plans with their first employers.
“I definitely want to work in retail through college at the very least,” Scafido said. “So I plan on staying with Carter’s until I finish college, and doing retail management.”
Whether students are happy with their first job or just tolerate it, it is a right of passage that most must go through in order to experience a little taste of what the future holds.
