Its seems hydrogen fuel cell cars are going to become the answer to reducing greenhouse gases by a huge percentage. But the problem with this idea is obtaining the hydrogen.
Hydrogen does not occur naturally on earth, it has to be extracted, this is an expensive process. The more cost effective ways to obtain hydrogen is striping the molecules which in turn releases carbon dioxide.
This is what we are trying to avoid, greenhouse gases. The more ecofriendly of the bunch is to use wind power, which is also very costly.
There is already a gas station on every corner, these gas stations are not simply going to convert to hydrogen. Also, transportation and the delivery system used to fuel the car are costly ($500,000 and $5,000,000 per installation). Maybe they will add a hydrogen fueling station at a big brand name gas stations, even then how accessibly throughout the city will they be?
Hydrogen cell fuel cars are currently in its “teenage years”. There is no way to estimate how this will affect people’s pocketbooks because this has not yet been observed in real world situations. This could become a huge deal once matured.
