This book gives you a peek inside the minds of the Angel family, damaged children who have been sheltered from the real world by their rich parents. The same rich parents who happen to wind up dead in the middle of the night with all the children as suspects. No one knows anything, which makes the book so intriguing.
Angel Pharma was the world’s leading pharmacy, was there a reason the founders of the company were found dead? Tandy, the only daughter in the family, takes it upon herself to solve this mystery. Finding the police useless. You follow along and try to solve it with her. I feel as though this book is very interactive for the reader. I found myself being just as eager as Tandy to figure out who the killer is.
Read as the family falls apart, from being arrested to being the main suspect in another murder case, this book has it all. Taking “vitamins” their parents made specially designed for each child, Tandy starts to wonder if these are truly just vitamins. As Tandy discovers more and more of her parents’ affairs, debt, and secrets she starts to suspect her own family.
There are so many twists and turns keeping you on the edge of your seat. The moment you think the case is a dead end, you’re proved wrong. She even suspects herself, not knowing her own capability with these “vitamins” she’s been taking her whole life. The children’s punishments were extreme, as well as their rewards. She never knew any other way of life, thinking a tank of sharks as a coffee table was normal.
Each child in the family is written beautifully. Their personalities contrast with each other and bring something out in the other. For example Harry and Tandy. Harry is sensitive but brilliant. Tandy is practically emotionless, due to the “vitamins”, with a hard head and determination. Harry brings out the best in Tandy while Tandy pushes Harry out of his comfort zone. The family aspect is written so well showing just how close these children are, or aren’t.
The end is a well-planned twist, something that everyone just barely seemed to skim over. To me, this book is an easy read and something that pulls you in basically right away. I didn’t find myself bored at any point while reading. I would give this book five stars out of five.
