Getting back into the groove of schoolwork and regulating sleep schedules after a long winter break may be harder it seems. Finally knowing the graduation date, seniors are eager to get across the stage trying to stay away from a case of senioritis.
“Yes, as the weeks go by I still constantly feel drained and unmotivated. The thought of being close to the finish line keeps me going throughout the weeks” Senior Talana Tyler said.
Senioritis is a term for seniors who have lost motivation in school. Fighting it becomes more difficult as the second semester approaches.
“Yes, I have had senioritis. It has affected me in school when having to go when I don’t feel like it. It can be exhausting. Being so close to graduation and wanting high school to be over with.” Senior Camdyn Cepeda said.
Senioritis consists of students falling behind in school, skipping class, and just simply not caring anymore because of how close graduation seems. Every senior class seems to have their case of senioritis. This is not something new.
“What can cause senioritis is the built-up years of high school early mornings, lectures, and class bells. When you finally get to senior year it can feel like that school is dragging on and you just can not wait to get across the stage.” Alumna Rihanna Benavides said.
Missing too many days of school because of senioritis could cause a loss of credit in class and the only way to salvage those missing hours is Saturday school and tutoring.
“I had to go to Saturday school to make up hours but in the end, I stopped skipping classes and school days overall by making it more bearable by ordering food, talking more with friends, and watching movies in my free time.” Benavides said.
