The Senior Superlative nominations have been revealed and for most students, this is the most intense time for some because of the voting process.
The Senior Superlatives should not be allowed.
Firstly, with this being an “anyone can vote” type of event, we could have people voting from other schools, parents, grandparents, literally anyone that wants to vote, can vote. It doesn’t seem fair being this is just a school senior event.
Furthermore, the categories are tough. You can be beautiful and not be nominated because you weren’t popular enough or you can be the most intellectual but not be nominated because you weren’t that known. It all revolves around popularity. You might not actually be most talented but since you have groups of people that’ll nominate you for that, you’ll win.
If someones popular, they may think that the superlatives are just a way to be recognized and a fun way to gain a little more popularity but in the end it’s really just a way to humiliate, and make the people who did not even get nominated, feel bad.
The superlatives won’t be gone anytime soon, but there are ways they can be a little more inclusive. Using more positive characteristics that aren’t so focused on looks or super personal personality traits. Examples of these would be like “Most likely to brighten your day”, “Most likely to go to the Olympics” and “Life of The Party”. These just avoid using any kind of wording that can affect someone. There are always ways to fix and or make things more inclusive while still keeping things lively and fun.
