When I found that I was going to go to Texas, I thought most of the people in Texas would wear cowboy boots and hats or would wear western-style clothing. That’s what I thought about Texas.
Since I started my exchange life here, I have found that most of the people in Texas have cowboy boots and hats just as I thought. However, they don’t wear them every day, which surprised me. Turns out, people in Texas are just like people in Japan.
Traditional clothing in Texas is cowboy boots and hats, while traditional clothing in Japan is kimonos and yukatas. Kimono is worn for special occasions, while Yukata is worn for festivals. I feel that the two are very different. Texas is more casual, while Japan is more dressy.
Japanese traditional clothes are not things teenagers would wear in everyday life. If teenagers wear them, that would be for a special occasion. Not only teenagers but also people of all ages wear them. In contrast, Texas’ traditional clothes are worn by a lot of people of all ages in everyday life.
I would say when I compare the clothes worn by Japanese teenagers and American teenagers, it’s not that different. When I went shopping, I found some clothing stores that I have in Japan, but I also found some that I don’t have in Japan. The clothing stores unique to America caught my interest, however, most of the clothes here are more expensive than those in Japan. And, I feel
American teenagers’ clothes are more colorful. When I went shopping. I found clothes with amazing designs that I’ve never seen in Japan, and it’s really interesting.
I didn’t think that I would find a difference in clothes but I have found it and it’s interesting. I feel proud to have Japanese traditional clothing because now, traditional Japanese clothing has become famous all over the world, providing an opportunity for people to learn about each other’s cultures.
