The month of February is always a major month, and Black History is celebrated all around the world. African Americans have contributed so much to the world that people celebrate all they have done for the United States every February.
Students feel that people should celebrate the history of African Americans and many other ethnic groups.
“It’s useful, and that everyone should be welcome to celebrate all ethnic holidays,” freshman Gage Ricker said.
With Donald Trump making his proclamation, The Department of Defense declared “Identity Months Dead.” Students find this troubling.
“It does impact people all over the world,” senior Talana Tyler said. “I personally know someone who’s deeply affected by it.”
February was chosen as Black History Month because it coincides with the birthdays of two important figures in the Abolishment Movement against slavery in the United States, President Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.
“I feel like every race should be included and celebrated, and we should not discriminate against anyone,” freshman Gage Ricker said.
