Contemporary Conceptions:
Marvel at the Epic-ness: The Avengers on the Big Screen
Captain America (Chris Evans). Thor (Chris Hemsworth). Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). These Marvel super heroes all come together under the S.H.I.E.L.D. program as the Avengers to fight off Loki and his newly formed army. The excitment bubbling inside me as the release date, May 4, for possibly the greatest comic book brand and series ever is at an extent that I will possibly explode. Not possibly, I will explode.
When, at the end of Captain America, they previewed the new Avengers movie I practically peed my pants. Scratch that – I didn’t pee my pants, but I did scream loud enough to wake up my parents who were sound asleep. With a bat and wide eyes, my mother and father barged into my room, scared that something bad had happened to me, only to see me jumping for joy on my bed. My dad sighed and walked out alongside my mother and my life had just begun- it was that awesome.
At the end of Captain America, (no, this isn’t a spoiler, it has been out for months now – everyone has seen it) you see Steve Rogers (Captain America), played by Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Not Another Teen Movie), waking up in after being frozen for more than 70 years and meeting Nick Fury, head of the S.H.I.E.L.D program, in the middle of Madison Square Garden – then it cuts to credits. After they roll, we get the first look at the new Avengers movie. A movie that will not only defy the logic of all mankind, but I hope will leave me wanting a sequel.
So what about you? Are you stoked for the Avengers? Or are you a DC fan awaiting the news of a live action Justice League movie?
