You can tell from their sound that the folk duo was inspired by artists such as Bright Eyes and Fleet Foxes. Mike Mogis of Bright Eyes actually produced the album. Like Bright Eyes, First Aid Kit is able to turn their deep, personal thoughts and feelings into whimsical folk songs. Klara’s sincere, warm voice adds emotion bringing to life each lyric. Johanna sings in a contrasting pitch to her sister, yet the two intertwine to create a pleasant harmony.
Each song on The Lion’s Roar has a unique sentimentality to it, but the ones that stood out to me the most were “Emmylou”, “The Lion’s Roar”, and “King of The World”, (featuring guest vocals by Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes). First Aid Kit is definitely a band to watch and, The Lion’s Roar is a must-listen.
