Originally this piece was supposed to be about the Supreme Court announcing the TikTok ban taking place on Sunday, Jan. 19. As the days were getting closer, students had concerns about TikTok, and whether the app would ever come back.
The ban only lasted 12 hours but students had other apps ready for backup. Rednote is one of largest social media apps in China with over three million users and was the main app students went to after the ban had happened.
“When I first got on it [rednote] after the ban, I thought it was sketchy,” Sophomore Ash Martinez said.
In 2020, President Donald Trump had mentioned he first wanted the ban of TikTok because of the app being Chinese-owned. Now, he has placed a 75-day grace period while waiting for an American buyer to purchase the app.
“No, they say that every year, someone will definitely buy it,“ Junior Jalicia Perez said.
