“May the Odds ever be in your favor”
In the wee hours of Friday morning, hundreds of fans crowded into movie theaters across the United States. It seemed that Regal Northwoods 14 was two seats shy from being sold out. With angst and teen spirit polluting the movie theater atmosphere, hundreds of teens and young-at-heart adults came together for this worldwide event. The Hunger Games sparked eccentric costumes and behaviors.
Clap. Clap. The sound of hands clapping faster than a hummingbird’s heartbeat filled the theater with a roaring vengeance. It seemed that clapping was the audience’s way of showing their appreciation for the featured film (Hunger Games). Five minutes into the previews, excitement and happiness could not be tamed by crazed fans, for there were giggles and applause every 10 seconds. Why you may ask? The answer for now is classified as “N/A”. No one will ever know why Hunger Games fanatics do the things they do.
Whether people showed up to root for Team Peeta or Team Gale, it was clear that Suzanne Collins captured a generation of teens (both boys and girls) and adults with ease. Possessed with Hunger Games spirit, fans took the liberty of dressing up as their favorite characters from the book. Some were the punctual and giddy Effie Trinket or the heroic and brave Katniss Everdeen, but all fans sure did not let the idea of judgement and humiliation stop them from showing their appreciation. They gathered in the movie theater as ONE! They were The Hunger Games fans who shared a common bond; the common bond of admiring and praising the book of triumph, tribute, and PEETA!
