The annual Powderpuff game last Friday concluded with the junior team winning 21-0 against the senior team.
The game lasted for an hour and a half between 5 p.m and 7 p.m and took place on the MacArthur Fushack field. The organizers of the event, Student Council, offered free entry this year and made shirts for the two teams, while cheer sold concessions.
¨A lot of people signed up. It was rough at first, but more people came to practices and were more active in participation, so overall it went well,¨ Student Council president Celeste Hetzer said. ¨At practices, people were really hands-on and wanted to learn, so there was a lot of interaction during the game¨
When discussing where the game went wrong, senior Kyranee Scott believed the lack of seniors going to practice, along with other things, was what caused the team to lose to the juniors.
¨There wasn´t any teamwork. I guess people only threw to their favorite person,¨ Scott said. ¨A lot of seniors signed up for it, but not a lot came. It was prom, so everyone was busy that Friday of practice¨
On the other hand, juniors experienced a game the opposite. There were more juniors than seniors, giving them an advantage. Junior Cydnee Burch also believes the number of juniors going to the practices compared to seniors was what got them the win.
¨Everyone did great, and we had good chemistry,¨ Burch said. ¨Practice helped a lot. We did a lot of plays ‘cause the football guys gave us their playbook. They were simple.”
The halftime show, historically done by the Brahmadorkas, was done by the student coaches to follow Texas Law regarding gendered words.
¨The halftime show was funny and exciting, and when I did it, it was fun,¨ senior Zachary Long said. ¨I felt way better than last year because I had my friends with me. It was cool.¨
Along with halftime, coaches helped out with practices and made plays for the game.
¨Coaches came with their playbook to run the practices and showed everyone how to play the game of football,¨ Student Council teacher Ella Santana said. ¨They taught them how to run bounds and play offense¨
