Winning a championship is always exciting, but for two sisters, it meant even more. The duo recently placed first in the girls doubles division at the district tennis tournament, showing not only their skill but also how strong their connection is on and off the court.
Throughout the tournament, the Sallee sisters showed great communication and teamwork. They were able to read each other’s moves and stay focused during intense matches, which helped them stand out against strong competition.
“It was honestly really cool winning with my sister,” junior Ryan Sallee said. “We’ve been playing together for a while, so it just made it way more special.”
The road to first place wasn’t easy. They faced tough matches, but they stayed positive and kept pushing each other. Whether it was celebrating a good play or encouraging each other after a mistake, they worked as a team the entire time.
Tennis has also helped their relationship off the court. The sisters shared that they don’t argue as much as they used to, and playing together has helped them understand each other better.
“I feel like we used to argue more, but tennis kind of helped us fix that,” Ryan Sallee said. “Now we just work better together.”
One of them also talked about a moment that stood out to her while playing together.
“A really special moment for me was when she helped me during a match when I was struggling,” Shane Sallee said. “She just kept encouraging me and telling me what to do, and it really helped.”
Their different strengths on the court also made a big difference. One sister was strong at the net, while the other played well from the baseline, making them a balanced and hard-to-beat team.
After winning districts, the sisters are now looking forward to what’s next. No matter what happens, they’ve already shown that their teamwork and determination make them a strong doubles team.
