“Laughter through tears is my favorite emotions,” said by Truvey Jones in the play called, “Steel Magnolias,” directed by Margaret Tonra. A family and friendship oriented production, that deals with five female friends that share their personal lives with one another in a beauty shop set in Chinquapin, Louisiana owned by Annelle Dupuy-Desoto played by Lily Dunlap and her friends, Truvy Jones (Paisley Garrett,) Clairee Blecher (Andrea Ayala,) and Ouiser Boundreaux played by Sam Ojeda. The production was performed in the Black Box theater on Nov. 15.
The storyline to this play resonates with truth about what makes an individual a person and celebrating friendships that last a lifetime; also understanding the importance of laughter is most needed during our sorrow times.
My favorite scene was the last scene, had me in tears, seeing Olivia Landreth as M’lynn Eatenton get into character as the mother of Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie played by Macy Nicholson, knowing her daughter had passed away is overwhelming to comprehend and letting her emotions fled out onto the stage was moving and an emotional wreck, but amazed to see that these actresses are outrageously talented and were suited for this play.
