With summer coming, all of us will be trying to escape the summer heat by staying indoors with the comfort of our air conditioning. Pass the time by watching some of these summer blockbuster movies.
May 26, The Little Mermaid
Ariel returns but in live-action, with the lead played by Halle Bailey. Considering that the live-action remake of “The Lion King” had mixed reviews, I don’t have the highest expectations for this movie. The CGI on the other hand looks amazing, just as great as “The Lion King”. The song in the trailer is great, Halle Bailey’s voice just matches the song so well.
June 8, Transformers: Rise of the Beast
BumbleBee comes back in “Transformers: Rise of the Beast”. What we know so far is that it takes place during the 1990s, and it continues after the events of “Bumblebee”. The conflict between the Autobots and the Decepticons travels to Earth. From the trailer, we see new faces, the Maximals, who are animal-based transformers and some old ones, the redesigns of Optimus. In the trailer, it looks like the main human character has changed, and the human protagonist will be Noah Diaz, who will be played by Anthony Ramos.
June 16, Elemental and The Flash
We are two movies, “Elemental” by Pixar and “The Flash” by Warner Bros. I have mixed feelings about “The Flash” because of the controversy with the lead role, Ezra Miller. But other than that, the story and animation are equally great. With Micheal Keaton as Batman, it shows real promise.
“Elemental” is a romantic comedy between two completely different elements, Ember Lumen and Wade Ripple played by Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie. I have higher expectations for Pixar because of the movie “Lightyear”. The animation we saw so far from the trailer is great.
July 23, Barbie
Barbie finally gets a live action movie, starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. I have no idea what the story will be about, but I’m still excited to watch it anyways. After all, Margot Robbie will be in the movie. The story sounds fun from the trailer and the descriptions online.
Aug 4, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem
In theaters this summer, a remake of the childhood show “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, with a similar animation style to “Spiderman into the Spider-Verse”. The entire voice cast for the turtles are Nicolas Cantu, Shamon Brown Jr, Brady Noon, and Micah Abby as Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello, respectively. Based on the trailer, the turtles behave more like their age to relate more to their target audience.
Aug 18, Blue Beetle
“Blue Beetle” blasts its way into the movie theater this summer, with Xolo Mariduna (from Netflix’s “Cobra Kai”) playing Blue Beetle. From the looks of it, the movie shows a lot of promise. Hopefully the movie isn’t as disappointing as the other releases DC has given us. The design of the “Blue Beetle” is great, and even without the mouth, the costume stays true to its comic counterpart. The story seems similar to “Shazam”, and this movie is the one that I’m most hyped for.
With all the movies coming out this summer, there’s so much to look forward to. You can check out these at theaters close to the school such as, Santikos Embassy 14, Alamo Drafthouse, Regal, and Santikos Galaxy.
